A couple of days ago (Tue), I was camped out by Picketpost, and doing some observing, and some imaging. Usually, when I am imaging, I capture about 7 frames, and the exposure length is 5 min (300 seconds) for each frame. Combined with internal delays, and dithering times, that means about 40-45 minutes "on target". One target gave me something very strange !! The others were just fine. At the top of each frame, there are a series of horizontal "traces". Sometimes 1, sometimes up to 3. I have "captured" my share of airplanes, and satellites. I know what they look like. And my experience there is that they produce very straight lines These mystery "traces" are wavy !!! What the heck ?? And, as you can see in the combined clips from the linked image, they do not "overlap" (meaning when the images are "stacked", I get "lots of lines".). Here is a "link" to the combined "snippets", showing this strange thing... http://www.az-dahut.net/obs-log-sheets/Picketpost7Frames.jpg It was about 8:45 in the evening, and my target was at 116 degrees AZ (True), and 26 degrees elevation. That would be sort of looking over the east end of the mountain. My other targets that evening were in the same general area, but no strange "traces" in those. The "snippets" are in order, top to bottom. The rest of the image was just fine, and my target displayed just fine. Remember, 5 minutes for each frame, and about 45-60 seconds between frames. This is at the "top" of the image, and "N" is "up", and "E" is to the left. So, there is still this mystery... Any ideas ?? David M.
