I am using a modified Orion Short-Tube 80 f/5 scope without any issues with my AT8IN on my CGEM. There should be a way of mounting a F/5 scope to get the results you need. What part of the valley do you live in? I can let you use my guide scope. As I said it’s a modified Short-Tube 80 f/5 scope. The body of the scope is an Orion 80mm f/7.5 scope tube. The lens and hood are from the Short-Tube scope. The rings are 8.5" apart. It has a helical focuser on it. You can use a Barlow with it too. If it is of the short tub f/6 variety then you will have problems. I used my Meade 80mm APO Triplett as a guide scope. Worked fairly well, even better when I put a Barlow in the thing. I am doing Photoelectric photometry with a Optec SSP3a photometer and a Meade 10" SCT. The photometer has a 80 minute reticule that the star needs to be centered. The problem I have had is the Celestron 80 mm f/ 5 does not hold alignment as the Losmandy rings are only about 4 1/2 inches part. I am thinking that if the rings were spaced farther apart that the alignment between the main scope and the guide scope would be more accurate. I recently purchased a Celestron CGEM DX to replace the Orion EQG and hope to supply good data to the AASVO.
