My experiences with those 80mm's as guide scopes is this. If it is of the
short tub f/6 variety then you will have problems.

I used my Meade 80mm APO Triplett as a guide scope. Worked fairly well,
even better when I put a Barlow in the thing.

I Think I should rephrase My question concerning the ED 80 f/7.5 guide
scope. I am doing Photoelectric photometry with a Optec SSP3a photometer
and a Meade 10" SCT. The photometer has a 80 minute reticule that the star
needs to be centered. The problem I have had is the Celestron 80 mm f/ 5
does not hold alignment as the Losmandy rings are only about 4 1/2 inches
part. I am thinking that if the rings were spaced farther apart that the
alignment between the main scope and the guide scope would be more accurate.
I recently purchased a Celestron CGEM DX to replace the Orion EQG and hope
to supply good data to the AASVO.
