I am also quite sure that there were no EVAs between Earth and Lunar
orbit. As in the movie, I believe that they did use the LEM for a time on
the Apollo 13 mission. Houston would have probably nixed any EVA to
evaluate the problem, as doing so would have used up precious oxygen
during cabin re-pressurization, and further drained the batteries.
My, how technology has improved! Now we just need to build a lunar
colony...

George

Hi Dan,
As far as I recall, no EVAs were done while the Apollo crafts were on
their way between earth and moon. I thought the crew had to move to the
LEM during Apollo 13, but nothing outside the capsule. They may have been
in better shape if they had been able to go outside to examine the
exploded tank.

One should be able to see the entire Milky Way from any point between the
Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, minus a few degrees to allow for the MW's
visible width. Unless I've got my geometry wrong, I think that would
work.

Consider that, on a spacewalk enroute to the Moon, one might be able to
rotate 360 and take it all in on the same night. I wonder if there were
any
spacewalks during the lunar Apollo missions. Ant space historians care to
comment?

> You only see half (well, maybe 2/3rds) of the MW even on the best of
nights from AZ. You might be able to see the entire MW from the equator,
though.
