FYI,

Please read below for details. APPIC is requesting nominations for three of its
seats on CoA that will be vacated in December of this year.

Nominations are due to APPIC by 9/21/10.

One of these seats is currently held by Donna Horn, a retired VA Palo Alto VA
psychologist. There are two other VA CoA members. Brad Roper’s term is up in
December of 2013, and my term is up in December of 2011. VA has befitted
greatly from its strong presence on CoA and it is critical that this continues.

I would strongly encourage VA psychologists to consider self-nominating or
nominating a colleague.

I know many of you are thinking, “sounds interesting, but it’s too much work!”
To be completely candid, CoA is a great deal of work, and it is a three-year
commitment. However, it has also been one of the most rewarding professional
experiences of my career, second only to serving on VAPTC EC. In addition to
serving the profession and VA, I have gained extensive knowledge about
education and training in psychology and have developed strong personal and
professional relationships with some of the most talented psychologists in the
country.

I would be happy to answer and question through back channel email or my direct
extension, 612.467.4024.

Dear Colleagues in the Education and Training Community:

APPIC has been asked to forward nominations for two seats on the APA Commission
on Accreditation (CoA) by September 30, 2010. Please consider nominating
yourself or a colleague for this important seat by September 21 – it is vital
that internship and postdoctoral training issues are well represented on the
CoA.

As you know, the CoA increased the number of seats from 21 to 32 in 2008. At
present, internship and postdoctoral programs are represented by Jeffrey Baker,
PhD (University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, term ending 2010), Donna
Horn, PhD (VA Palo Alto, term ending 2010), and Joyce Illfelder-Kaye, PhD
(Pennsylvania State University). Thus, nominations are requested for the seats
currently held by Drs. Baker and Horn.

A position on the CoA requires a substantial amount of work, including three
4-day meetings in Washington, DC (April, July & October) and at least one
policy review meeting usually held in January. Nominations must include a CV
and a letter of interest that identifies interest and qualifications.
Nominations are due by September 21, 2010. Please forward your nominations and
letter of interest (self-nominations are encouraged) to:

Jenny Cornish, PhD: jennifer.cornish@xxxxxx

Nominees must meet the following criteria to be considered:

1. The nominee must have a doctoral degree in professional psychology
(i.e. clinical, counseling, school, combined or developed practice area as
accredited by American Psychological Association Commission on Accreditation).

2. The nominee must have a minimum of five years of experience employed at
an internship or postdoctoral training site that is a member of a formal
training group such as Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies
(ACCTA), Association of Postdoctoral Programs in Clinical Neuropsychology
(APPCN), Veterans Affairs (VA), or the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral &
Internship Centers (APPIC).

3. The nominee has contributed significantly to his/her internship or
postdoctoral program’s APA self-study and site visit process.

4. Special consideration is given to internship or postdoctoral training
directors, chief psychologists and department chairs with prior experience as a
site visitor.

5. Qualities such as leadership, ethical responsibility,
conscientiousness, fairness, and working well in groups will be strongly
considered.

6. Preference is given to current and past ACCTA, APPCN, VA Psychology,
APAHC, COPPP, or APPIC Board members who meet the above criteria.

Please visit the APPIC website for further information regarding this process:

http://www.appic.org/CoA_2010_Index.htm

Documents include:

1. Policies of Accreditation Government

2. 2010 Information for Prospective CoA Members

3. 2010 CoA Membership Profile

4. Criteria for Other Internship and Postdoctoral Representative

Please contact me if you have additional questions. Thanks!
