Make the Connection ?Good or Bad

by Edith M. Holmes

When I finished my novel, I cut the computer off and told myself, "You did
it! You made the connection." Like Oprah Winfrey often says, I'd gotten in
touch with my feelings and wrote them down into a novel: ?PRESSIONS?Memoirs
of a Southern Cat.

I wanted to share the good news with everybody and anybody. I just knew a
publisher would be interested in the story. I wrote forty query letters, and
got ONE response. Excited, I sent the first three chapters?rejection. Why?

"I don?t like female characters who are weak with self-pity," the letter
said. "I like strong women who are inspiring."

Well, I don?t like weak women either, but?a very big "but"?if you are
bi-polar, as my main character is, you have some of the symptoms of riding
the cyclone. And weakness was one of them for her?at least, in the
beginning. Just like me. You see, I'm bi-polar too. Apparently the agent
didn't want to read long enough to find just how strong that weak woman
really was!

Never give up on your dreams. Never! The Creator has many avenues. One of
them is self publishing. Determined to overcome, I decided to hire an
editor, a Georgia girl just like me. What I had to say didn?t kill her in
the writing and re-writing! Now, she isn't just my editor; she's my friend.
I also chose Lumina Press to publish the book.

Like the American Idol, Ruben Studdard, I?m now fly without wings, and still
have my angels on my shoulder. My editor and publisher are my angels, and
there are angels waiting to help you too, in your dream to be published.
Don't let anyone discourage you, and never, ever give up!

Biography

Edith M. Holmes is a 47-year-old African-American woman living in the Deep
South of Georgia. As a disabled American Veteran who suffers with the
bi-polar cyclone, writing is her antidote for depression. She has published
articles in the local newspapers in her hometown. Edith has a wonderful
husband and daughter whom she adores.

Edith enjoys writing about strong women in ethnic and multi-ethnic family
sagas with a paranormal twist?her way to give a voice to those who are
"special in a weird way"?the Dream-Weavers, Psychics and Bipolar Depression
sufferers of the world.

Advanced Techniques: Foreshadowing

by Sandy Tritt

http://tritt.wirefire.com <http://tritt.wirefire.com/>

Foreshadowing drops hints of what may happen in the future. The
main purpose of foreshadowing is to keep the reader interested by adding
suspense. It is very easy to use. It usually consists of only one or two
sentences, and is especially effective when ending a scene or chapter.

Examples of foreshadowing:

Sam wished he could rid himself of the sick feeling in his gut that told him
something terrible was going to happen, and happen soon.

Jackie didn?t know it at the time, but this would be the last time he would
see his mother alive.

Thunder rumbled in the distance. The air was thick with tension and would
soon explode.

Study what works in fiction you admire. Notice the tools the author uses to
enter the past or foretell the future. Unless you are a writer, these
techniques should appear invisible and smooth. But as a writer, you must
learn to use these techniques to add punch to your own work.

AUTHOR-ME PAPERBACK - NOMAD: A REFUGEE POET

By Rais Neza Boneza

"Leave or Die," he was told. Driven from home by the authorities in
République Démocratique du Congo, Rais Boneza escaped with his family and
thousands of other dispossessed people. He shuffled from one neighboring
country to the next: Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda. Border guards purloined
his writings. Arriving in Uganda he wrote again, creating Nomad, a precious
collection of his hopes, dreams, and an outcry for the conditions he sees in
the land he loves. Read his verses and experience the hidden misery faced by
a refugee in a land of political strife, bloodshed, and yet ? a brilliant
promise.

AUTHOR-ME E-BOOK - RADICAL LEADERSHIP FOR A NEW MILLENNIUM

By Dr. Jacob Hevi

Leadership has been the topic of discussion, so also values. But the
intimate functional relationship between leadership and values has not been
given enough attention. The thesis of this book is that authentic leadership
which alone can fulfill the aspirations of humankind in the new millennium
is the leadership based on, directed by and oriented towards the fulfillment
of fundamental values of various groups and the universal humankind- the
leader being the symbol and promoter of fundamental human values.

This conclusion is indicated by the collective historical human conscience,
which implicitly sets the criterion for authentic leadership in various
dimensions of human existence.

AUTHOR-ME E-BOOK ON TEMPERAMENT THERAPY

by Dr. Rick Martin

Temperament is the God-given, inborn nature of each person determining how
he or she interacts and reacts with people, circumstances, environments,
situations, and the world.

Temperament is who we are on the inside, what the Bible calls "the inner
man" (or woman, God is not talking gender here). The National Christian
Counselors Association, in the early 1980s, conducted seven years of
research involving 5,000 people in regards to temperament. The research is
still continuing.

It is now possible, through the use of the Temperament Analysis Profile
Report (renamed the Arno Profile System in honor of Drs. Arno who were
intimately involved in this research), to determine a person?s temperament
and their temperament needs accurately and scientifically.

When a person?s temperament needs are being met by healthy and godly means,
stress, anxiety and the problems related to stress and anxiety are greatly
reduced.

Some of the problems directly connected to stress and anxiety are:
depression, dissatisfaction, loneliness, fear, frustration, anger, marriage
and family problems, poor work performance, exhaustion and inter/intra
personal conflicts.

Even the American Medical Association has stated that 80% of physical
ailment is stress related. Dr. Rick is convinced Temperament Therapy is
God?s gift to the church to help people in the area of counseling.

Temperament Therapy is Bible based and Christ-centered. He is also convinced
that relationship problems are all temperament rooted and has yet to find a
problem, great or small, that cannot be solved with Temperament Therapy.

Dr. Rick wrote God Created You: A Guide To Temperament Therapy to provide
information in a fun, easy to understand, non-clinical format so people
could understand who God created them to be, how God created others and how
to have happy, healthy relationships with the rest of God?s creatures
(people; yes, God created them the way they are also, just as He did you).
He is convinced this book will help anyone who has any relationship (at work
or home or play) to be the person God intended them to be and to enjoy
happier, healthier relationships.
