Hi Kobus,
Just had a thought. In my case only the chapter number was affected so if the
styles in the template were updated and I wanted to update the document styles
I would recheck the update styles automatically box, change the chapter number,
and then uncheck the box again.
However, if there is lots of numbering throughout the document you won't want
to have to go through the whole process each time styles in the
template are updated (assuming that this will happen). Perhaps using the Word
Sequence field is a better solution but I don't know how involved it would be
to have it replace what you have now. Perhaps another solution is to introduce
an Outline Numbering system assuming that your numbering fits in with your
style of document. I know that Outline Numbering can be difficult but I have
found that if you set up the outline numbering all in one go, going via the
Format/Styles path rather than the Format/Bullets and Numbering path and using
a fresh outline numbering "style" (don't know what the correct term is) (ie hit
the Reset button before you choose the outline numbering style you want) it is
usually OK. You would have to remove the manual numbering applied now first
before applying the outline numbering - you never want to mix the two. You can
always go to the Shauna Kelly website to see her advice.

Regards,
Petra
