And as we all know, not only are Americans illiterate; they and their
apologists are sadly lacking in any grasp of Australian humour.

Geez, let's leave Americans out of it. I doubt that American major
newspapers, magazines, and books are any worse, grammatically, than
Australian ones.

I can assure you that the level of grammatical apathy in the office here in
Australia is exactly the same as it was when I worked in the U.S.

Harumph.

You obviously don't socialise with either "the youth of today" or with
Americans. Try networking on Facebook to get a taste of reality. :-)

And even more bizarre: the two threads which surface in some surprisingly
negative reader comments to the Herald article:

   1. that the Myer signage grammar was deliberate, and intended to elicit
publicity (an opinion apparently justified on the basis that it worked).
   2. that anyone who complains about bad grammar needs to get a life.

I thought only butcher's and fruiterer's had been given social approval to
be so grammatically cavalier.

Yikes! But what does "Early bird get's the right size" even mean? It's a
bloody awkward sentence even without the superfluous apostrophe.
