Rob I see your point and I did think about this - what kind of information
of mine would be available to Linked In to use for these new purposes? I
figured there wasn't actually anything terribly personal up there that they
could use BUT it's the principle of having my identity and history used for
the purposes of advertising that I object to more than anything. If I"m
going to be used to advertise something, I want to be paid for it, and
consulted too, if that's not too much trouble.

I've seen a similar thing on FB when they did ads using people's profiles.
Was quite distasteful.
