Hi Peter (Fagan) A Compaq one that we have been dealing with at work, looks funky (black and silvered plastic upright case with a CD-ROM draw that opens sideways / vertical) and I can see that it would be very handy to transport, by itself or with a keyboard and a mouse, just using any available monitor wherever you plug it in. Our Systems Administrator here, however, is rather unimpressed with it (video card is a tad nasty, very little capability for expansion and the like, compromise motherboard design) but it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as dreadful a compromise as a laptop to me. No batteries or charger to lug around. Not so much of a target for thieves. You can buy RAM and drives for it without too much of a cost penalty. Has an inbuilt modem, network card and powered ports. It is pretty portable and lugable considering. ...and quite powerful / fast / capable to boot (reboot?). Now why nobody (that I know of) builds a PC these days as portable as an Amiga 500, 600 or 1200 (or an Atari ST) of the late 1980s and 1990s, with a slim CPU case that has an integrated keyboard is beyond me. You could slip one under your arm, pop the power supply block and the mouse in a shopping bag and off you went. Not much more effort than taking a keyboard with you. But that concept seems to have vanished, unless anyone knows otherwise. Cheers, Michael Michael E. Granat Technical Communicator Without Prejudice. E&OE.
