Just one note on this stuff.  
 
I find I get all kinds of unexpected results if I try changing these settings in the middle of a document
without trailing right through the doc from top to toe to ensure all the heading and footer settings stay in their expected settings.
 
I guess there's a logic to it, and I guess somewhere once someone documented this, but I'm not a trusting soul in this area,
and sometimes I find it's prudent to track down through the document and then back up to see what's happened to all the
settings. And then I do it again.  Seems to be very easy to break things, particularly when you're dealing with the marvels of duplex printing.
