Hmmmm... That's some good advice, but it's not the problem. This is in Word, with no documents open, going into the Visual Basic Editor, and trying to open the Normal macro project to reveal the forms and modules, etc. (Also with a new (empty) document with nothing in it.) Usually when I get myself into this kind of trouble I can figure some way out, but this has me baffled! Just a note on the filenames, though - up until recently we were naming our files along the lines of Document Blah v0.1.doc - until someone's anti-virus flipped about it. Problem turned out to be using a full-stop in the version number - turned the doc into having a double extension, and we all know virus-laden documents do that sometimes. So now we use a hyphen in the version number, and don't use full-stops anywhere else in the document name. Still could use some help on that macro thing! -----Original Message----- From: Michael Edward Granat [mailto:megranat@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Friday, 25 July 2003 11:51 AM To: Elizabeth Fullerton Cc: austechwriter@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [austechwriter] Word argh Importance: High Hi Elizabeth, You might have what I call a Macro-proof Word document, which was created with illegal (for MS-DOS/Windows) characters in the file name. I've seen it happen when a writer I was working with saved a Word doc, which automatically captured the first line of text in the document (containing colons, slashes and the like) as its file name. The Visual Basic simply would not converse with the file. On the plus side, it's a great way to make your Word files macro virus proof. It is wortha try to rename the file, but just renaming the document might not work, as VB will now recognize the file as something rather nasty. If that is the case, you will need to copy and paste the content of the offending file into a new file, based on your associated template (in fact, make sure that the template doesn't have a dodgy file name as well). Just make sure that when you save the file you keep its name brief, concise and system-legal. So much for the (in)famous Windows long file name support! Cheers, Michael Michael E.
