<coughs politely>

Seeing as I can no longer get work for $50 / hr as there are NO such
contracts, the rate has dropped to $40 and I have spoken to local TW's who
have been told that their price of $45 is too high, and a recent position
for $25 / hr in Melbourne had 300 applicants, I'd REALLY like to know on
what basis you claim we are exagerating the situation.

I see 2 jobs a week being advertised if we are lucky, normally there are 12
ads talking about the same 3 jobs that have been advertised for the last
fortnight as all recruiters rush in to try and get their % from the rapidly
dwindling marketplace.

By all means, if OS people want to verify these facts they should join
www.seek.com.au. Most jobs go through there, monster and itcareers are
another two that cover most of the small remainder of jobs. It becomes quite
obvious really damn quickly that there is stuff all work going for te3ch
writers and the rates have PLUMMETTED since the heady days of Y2k where I
was charging $60 / hr.

Murali,
I am a professional recruiter based in Sydney and specialising in the IT
market. I believe the views given by a couple of people on the list are a
little over exagerrated, although its fair to say their is an over supply of
candidates on the market.
If you are not currently in Australia but are looking to relocate, I would
advise you to sort out permanent residency first, or come on a tourist visa
and try to get work while here. The chances of you securing employment while
not in the country are very slim.
If you would like to send me a copy of your resume in word format, I would
be happy to let you know of any vacancies.
Regards
Kevan

Very very few such jobs going, completely over-saturated by the local
availability. I'm afraid its still a hirer's market out there. Most stuff is
contract, very few perm jobs floating around.
