I was on welfare for a time in the early 90's while trying to find a job and raise 2 children with no child support at that time. When President Clinton kicked a lot of people off welfare in 1993 (I think), it was hard, but the best thing that ever happened to us. It is useful for a short period of time, but detrimental to both your psychological health and becomes a trap for those of us who were the working poor and wanted to be self-sufficient. I took a 50 cent an hour raise (or $80 a month increase) and my children lost their health insurance through the state and we then lost the $80 a month in food stamps. Again, it was scary at first, but in the long run, it was the BEST thing that ever happened. The government gives nothing for free, there is always a cost, whether it's evident right then or not. So, no I do not believe our current welfare system is good, especially not now that so many more Americans are on food stamps and subsidized this, that and the other. Talking about prejudices it seems like a good time to bring up a real question. Yesterday in class we were discussing whether crime was a race based issue or as a result of something else. Well during the discussion Welfare got brought up. The question was asked do you think Welfare is a good system the way it is currently set up. Regardless of your answer you had to explain your reasoning. So, is Welfare a good set up the way it is currently set up. If you are in another country that has some sort of government assistance please feel free to answer. And Explain why you feel the way you do. I did answer this question and it turned into a slight debate the instructor let continue between me and another student at first and then other classmates started joining in before she stopped the conversation. Once I hear from you all I will tell you my stance on it and why I feel the way I do. By the way Cinderella wore apre-worn shoe, a shoe that several people tried on before getting to her *LOL*. So, just another sign of the discrimination being exhibited here *LOL*. It was good enough for a princess, but not Betharoni the Unccured Pepperoni *LOL*. But I will warn you, Josh was passing that shoe all around Knoxville, so there’s been a lot of feet try it on, so be careful that you don’t get a fongus trying it on *lol*. Maybe best to just hand it back over to Josh and not try it on. > On Mar 2, 2015, at 9:17 PM, Heather H <copperlee73@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > Wittle ole me an instigator?
