Jeb has already stated he’s running as a moderate first. How well has that
done for the Republican Party in the past couple of terms? Obama ran against
one outright moderate to get the Presidency the first time, then a guy who
listened to the wizards of smart for his second campaign who did wind up
appealing to the moderates and independents. He carried them overwhelmingly,
but in the process left a lot of his base staying at home and thus Obama again.
I understand Jeb may be going it in reverse, but starting as a moderate first
may not be the greatest idea, gotta be able to pull some of the base vote along
with you through the primaries season, or he’ll be a back bencher quick. In
primaries the energy is in the base, not the moderates. Although it would be
interesting to see what would happen if a person started more center and moved
right. I’m not sure it’s ever happened in modern times. Have seen people
campaign center and move left though. Have seen people campaign right and then
move center or left. But the reverse?
