Under Preferences->Devices, change your host type, output device, and recording
device.
I’ve had that same error when I tried using WASAPI as my host. If you are
using WASAPI, try MME or DirectX as your host.
What kind of hardware are you using for your input and output?
Best,
David

Subject: [audacity4blind] recording problem with new computer
Hiall
If anybody can help me, I hope to hear from you.
I just got a new computer which uses Windows 7 and JAWS 18.
I have the latest JAWS and the jaws script for it.
I can record from a tape to MP3, but I can’t record directly off the computer.
When I try, I get an error message I will try to duplicate.
Error opening device.
Try Adjusting audio host, recording device and sample rate.
I’m writing on a different computer so I can’t acces that message as I write
you.
All that might as well be written in ancient Klingon for all the good it does
me.
How do I adjust any of those things?
None of them are listed under audacity preferences.
