You should not turn on listen to this device. That has nothing to do with
whether Stereo Mix will record it. Listen to this device plays the audio
through the speakers and that's all it does. If you were using Windows
XP, you would have to unmute the audio in play to get Stereo Mix to record
it but this is Windows 7 and listen to this device is completely unrelated
to what Stereo Mix will record.
If you turn it on for the Microphone source, you will hear your microphone
through your computer speakers and that is not what you want to happen. I
don't have listen to this device set to on for any source I record from
and I can record from any source I wish.
In a recent message, Jim said that he is using two sound cards. You
should send all audio through one sound card, the one with Stereo Mix
enabled when you are recording. In this case, since you said you found a
Realtek driver that enables stereo mix, send all audio through the Realtek
sound card. Simply unplug the USB sound card and the Realtek will become
the default sound card and everything should play through it.
Stereo Mix is a setting you are working with in one sound card. You are
not recording from two sound cards.
