Audacity has extremely limited abilities with MIDI.
MIDI files may be imported and displayed graphically as a "Note track".
Note tracks support basic editing (cut, copy, paste, delete) and the
edited track may be exported as a new MIDI file. That's about all that
Audacity can currently do with MIDI. There is no MIDI recording or
MIDI playback. For working with MIDI you could use a "MIDI sequencer".
Full featured DAW applications (such as Sonar, Cubase, et al) usually
have quite good support for MIDI.
