Jim, since you're using JAWS, you might want to try the JAWS script for
Audacity

It gives a lot of feedback and makes accessing some information, like
the start and end time of the selection easier to get. You can look at
the README <https://github.com/campg2j003/JAWS-Script-for-Audacity>,
press h a couple of times to get to the start of the README.

There are a number of ways in Audacity to do what you want to do, but perhaps the most straightforward is to have each voice break and each song as a separate track.
Some of the important points in doing this:
1. If you import some audio, which in your case would be a song, a new track is appended to the project, and the audio is inserted into that track. The shortcut for importing audio is ctrl+shift+I.
2. For recording each voice section, if you press shift+R, this records in new track at the end of the project. On the transport menu, there is a transport sub menu, where you should make sure that the overdub option is not checked, as you don't want to hear any of the other tracks when you record your voice.
3. When you've got all your tracks together, you then need to align the audio in the tracks so that they play after each other, rather than all at the same time. To do this, press ctrl+shift+k to select all the tracks, open the tracks menu, open the align tracks sub menu, and choose align end to end.

breaks between songs that I play and then, go back to whatever
music I want to include on the show. How do I set up audacity to
do both use my microphone and then, record files that I have in my
