Following those steps, there is no audio selected in the original project.
Step 2. 8 presses of shift + "." will move the cursor two minutes to
the right, but there is no audio selected.
If you want to copy from the start to the two minute point of tracks 2 and 4:
1) Select tracks 2 and 4
2) Press the Home key to move the cursor to the start
3) Shift + dot eight times. Moves the cursor 2 minutes to the right
4) Shift + home. Select from the cursor position to the start of the track.
5) Ctrl+C to copy
6) Ctrl+N for a new project
7) Ctrl+V to paste.
If you want to copy from the two minute position to the end of the
project, change step 4 to Shift + End key.

If you make a selection in one track, then press "shift + ctrl + k",
the selection will be extended to all tracks. After copying, to paste
into existing tracks you must select the same number of tracks and
they must be of the same kind (mono or stereo) as the tracks that you
copied from. Alternatively, if no tracks are selected when you paste,
Audacity will create new tracks of the appropriate type.

Let's say I've got a project with 8 tracks in it... I select 55 seconds
of
the 8 tracks I want to copy.
If I do a ctrl+c to copy all 8 tracks, Audacity will copy only the
selected
track that focus is on in the track list.
Is there a way to copy the selected time range of all 8 tracks at once to
paste them into a new project? I've been copying one track at a time but
that gets pretty time consuming.
