[audacity4blind] more help on editing needed

Hello,
Persuent to my previous message on increasing volume: Your instruction to use
spacebar made it play for me. Thanks! My next step was to use control A to
select; then go to Effects menu to find... But most items said "not
available", which was true because entering only took me out of the menues.
Any more clarification would be aplpreciated.
