Hi Jim!
You can install it over the previous version no problem. You'll be asked
if you want to install to the same folder and if you want to keep or reset
your preferences.

I am a newcomer to Audacity.
Is it alright to install the new version of Audacity over the existing
one?
I have the previous version installed so it's not an old one.
Or is it better to uninstall all traces of the old version and start
again?
