First, make sure left and right markers are “on top of each other”, or at
exactly the same point in time. It will push everything else on the selected
track or tracks to the right 2 seconds.
What is happening, I think, is since your right marker is at the end of the
track, you are silencing everything between the markers.

Subject: [audacity4blind] inserting silence
Hi all, I want to insert 2 seconds silence into a short track. I set the left
marker to the spot where I want the silence to begin, press alt +g then letter
s. I set the time to the length of silence required then press enter. I then
select the whole track, press space to play and when the track reaches the
point where I have inserted silence I hear no more. Can anyone suggest what
stage I am missing?
Many thanks,
Brian
