Hi Brad,
just to point out that using the append record command is easier to use than 
you think:
1. If there's just a single track, simply choose append record on the transport 
menu (shift + R). It doesn't matter whether the track is selected or not.
2. If there's more than one track, select the track you want to append to, and 
then press shift + R.

Note, there's no need to mute other tracks, or move the cursor to the end of 
the tracks.

Hi just to pass on to you also, there is the append recording command. If you 
have saved a project with some unfinished recording you can use this as follows.

Select the track you have with partial recording.
Mute the other tracks if they exist,
Once your in the selected track move to the end of it with Control + end for a 
windows computer and shift + K for a mac 
then use the shift + R option to append recording, note double check the 
command for windows computers but you can find this in the transport menu.
