First, you would choose the units to use. After that, you decide what
the amplitude at the start and the end of the selection should be.
Now, you can enter time/value pairs to refine the envelope.
Let's say you work with percentages and you want to keep 100 % for
start and end of a 30 seconds selection.
The text box could have:
3 50 15 20 27 50
This would mean that the envelope fades down to 50 % within 3 seconds,
fades further down to 20 % for the next 12 seconds and fades up in the
same fashion in the last 15 seconds.
Another nifty feature is that you can enter a negative number so that
it is relative to the end. That's great for variable length
selections.
For instance:
3 20 -3 20
means that you fade down to 20 % for the first 3 seconds and raise the
amplitude again within the last 3 seconds, no matter if the selection
is 10 seconds or 10 minutes.
