I found a sound card driver upgrade via Windows Update. I am nervous about installing the driver update. Does installing a sound card driver upgrade cause speech to stop working during installation? Unchecking it means you will not see the choice if the device is disabled. The setting, when on, does not prevent you from seeing Stereo Mix. If you don't see it, it may mean that you have to install the sound card driver from the manufacturer. Often, computers come with the Microsoft driver for the sound card and the Microsoft driver often doesn't support Stereo Mix. If you are already using the latest driver from the manufacturer and still don't see the option, then it may be that your sound card doesn't support that option and finding one that does may be necessary. I use a USB sound card that supports Stereo Mix. It's a Sound Blaster sound card. I don't know which brands and models of USB sound cards support Stereo Mix in Windows 7. My sound card is three or four years old and I don't know if that model is made any longer. If you purchase a sound card, try to verify, before purchase, whether it supports Stereo Mix and also purchase it from a store with a good return policy. I've seen complaints about sound cards that are supposed to support Stereo Mix in Windows 7 but the feature doesn't work. You may have to try more than one sound card. There may be software yyou can use that mimics Stereo Mix regardless of the sound card being used. I don't know enough about that subject to discuss it.
