I ripped the entire album as one track and would like to break it into
tracks. I was just wondering if I could record future albums, or cassettes
by pressing spacebar at the end of track 1, say, and then immediately press
shift-r before the next track starts. I would end up with 11 or 12 or
whatever tracks when I was done. I'll try your keystrokes. Thanks.

To clarify, are you wanting to have each album on a separate track?
Pressing shift-r with recent versions of Audacity will certainly start
recording on a fresh track. Assuming default settings, when you play back
you will hear the two or more tracks you have recorded.
Arrowing up and down will move between tracks. Pressing the Enter key on a
track will select/deselect it. For your purposes, be sure to select only
one track at a time.
Pressing shift-s on a track will solo it (press again to unsolo). Pressing
shift-u will mute a track.
You mentioned tagging. I am not sure if we are both thinking of the same
process, but I use Audacity's labels for providing navigation between songs.

I have been ripping vinyl albums into tracks for some years now and would
like to try to break them into tracks to do some tagging. I tried tracking
on the fly by stopping the recording with space and then quickly pressing
shift-r. I got several tracks but can't figure out how to play them
individually or to work with them. I'd appreciate some guidance on how to
make an audacity project with tracks.
