Hi Andrew,
I have things set to variable standard 170 to 210 KBPS and the songs were
tolerable with file sizes coming out 3 to 5 MB.
Everything has worked great for a couple years worth of recordings.
I have indeed exported a single file and it finishes up just fine around 4 MB.
A complete reinstall might not hurt so bad. I only have a few things customized.

Hey Stan, I hope they sound good (smile). I do something similar and, so far
touch wood, have not had that issue. It seems like Audacity thinks it is
saving to mp3 but is in fact saving to a lossless format.
As a shot in the dark:
What parameters are you using for the mp3s? I use 320 kbps and get sizes per
song of between 5 and 7mb.
What happens if you export - say - just one song?
If push comes to shove a full reinstall would presumably fix it, but that can
be a nuisance if you have it set up the way you like it.

Hi everyone, I believe some of you clever folk can help me figure this out.
Using Audacity, I've been recording albums from the Internet, labeling the
songs, and exporting multiple to MP3. The file sizes have been around 3 to 4 MB
per song after export.
Out of seemingly nowhere the files are suddenly huge, some more than 100 MB,
most between 50 and 100 even though they are still MP3.
I've combed through all the settings I could find but nothing seems amiss.
I remember this starting to happen after I saved a copy of a project as a
Lossless copy. I don't see how that could make all my saves going forward as
Lossless but ...
Any ideas?
