Okay, so you weren’t exporting a single project with multiple tracks to one mp3
file? Am I hearing this right?
Thanks, and glad you got it sorted out (even though I am still confused *smile*)
I’ll have to look into labels more. There must be some dynamic shtuff going on
with labels.
Best,
David

Yes Andrew, that is exactly right.
I was ending up with 10 separate files in my folder representing each of my
label points. The problem was that the first file actually contained tracks 1
through 10, the 2nd file tracks 2 through 10, the 3rd 3 to 10 and so on because
I had the entire track selected.
After reading Robert’s response I went back to the original project with no
labels, , unselected the track with all the songs, reset the label points,
exported multiple and achieved the results I had been getting all those times
before.
Much thanks,
StanB

David, all of what you say is correct. The reason that Stan’s files were large
was that he had inadvertently selected from the current point to the end of the
track when labelling each song. Having been similarly caught out in the past,
I am now very careful to check what is selected.

I’m confused about how labels would make a difference in the size of an mp3
exported from an Audacity project.
An mp3 only has one track associated with its file size, right? I mean: I can
select multiple tracks in an Audacity project and export it to an mp3 that
renders the selected tracks to one mp3 file. The labels don’t export to the mp3
file do they? It doesn’t matter how many tracks you select before you select to
export to mp3; it will always render as a smaller file than exporting it to a
lossless format like WAV.
If you export to WAV the file will always be much bigger than the similarly
exported mp3 file. Where does the difference in labelling make a 4Mb to 100Mb
difference in a single exported file from the selected tracks in the Audacity
project?
What am I missing here? Note that I don’t use labels normally so I haven’t much
experience with exporting tracks with labels on them.
I appreciate your expertise! I always like to learn.

In my previous post I said:
“I cannot imagine how using point labels would give a different result to what
you are getting.”
I was wrong. Point labels allow exporting multiple perfectly well. The catch,
as Stan found out, is to inadvertently have the remainder of the track selected.

Ah, never thought of that. I always use labels that cover the length of the
song/item, which is why the issue has not arisen for me. I cannot imagine how
using point labels would give a different result to what you are getting.

Strange, I’ll paste it below:
Hello Robert,
They are indeed point labels. And yes, you are right! Thank you very much!
I checked and Audacity is exporting from the label to the end of the project.
However, I don't think it's a bug because I've recorded and exported several
albums successfully since updating to 2.4.1.
This seems to have started after I saved a copy of a project as Lossless. I
can't recall anything else that I changed or did differently.
