[audacity4blind] Re: Vocal Isolation Plugin

I wonder if there's a way to cut off a frequency range, like 140 hertz and
below. Or will that not work?

I'm trying the Vocal Isolation, but I can still hear the music. Is there
something I might be doing wrong?

As I said, increase the "Strength" slider - up to 50.0, if you like.
Normalize afterwards (and also before).

Set the low cut to about 140 - this removes some bas sounds.
Take "Isolate Vocals"
and not "Isolate Center", otherwise the low cut won't work.
I think that take 3 is worse than take 2 for isolation.

I don't think that I did more than what I've just mentioned. thus your
take 3 should sound like mine.

Cheers
Robert

I'm listening to it in Audacity, and it leaves me to wonder, how did
you do

this? I wonder, how exactly did you do this? I can still hear some of
the music, but I do hear my voice standing out a lot. Is it possible
that I could find this plugin you used, to try it in Audacity 2.1.0?

The plug-in is attached, I hope it won't be blocked anywhere.
Put it into the plug-ins folder, restart Audacity and it should be there.

I've chosen "Isolate Vocals" with a strength of 50.0 and a low frequency cut

of 140 Hz.
It's sometimes better to use a slightly lower strength (e.g. 12.0) because
it
produces less artefacts.

Tip: If you just want to bring the voice more out, choose "Remove Vocals"
with
a strength less than 1.0 (0.7071 and 0.5 are magical numbers).

Anyway, normalize the audio in those cases (I hope it works now...) - It's
not
necessary for "Remove xxxx" with a strength > 1.0.

Hope it works.

Cheers
Robert

Really nice, Annabelle.

It's a bit difficult to isolate the voice. The general gain is low
(-12 dB) There's also a lot of music panned to the middle and the
correlation is high (87 %).

Here's take two after processing:

I don't know if the remaining music will be sufficiently masked by
your new accompaniment.

Cheers
Robert

What I'm trying to do is have my voice track to put into a project I
made in

Sonar, which I had to reconstruct from scratch after accidentally
formatting

the hard drive that all my Sonar projects were on. This incident
occurred about 4 months ago, and I'm still mad at myself for ever
making that particular mistake, since unfortunately I never made a
back-up of that particular project!

Well, you can send me a sample of the file or a link to it.
I'll look what's achievable then.

I would in any case update your Audacity version if I were you.

However, I can provide you with the plug-in if you want to use it
with 2.1.0

Regards
Robert

Hi Annabelle

"Vocal Reduction and Isolation" is included and shipped with
Audacity from Version 2.1.1 (current release) on.
I'm the author of it by the way.

It might be that you have to enable it first with the "Manage"
dialog in the Effects menu.
If this still doesn't work you'll have to go deeper and remove all
*.cfg files that are stored in your user folder.
I can give you the step by step instructions if this should be
necessary.

The plug-in will only work if your Track is in stereo and if the
other instruments are differently panned than your voice.

An increased "Strength" improves the isolation results but the track
must usually be amplified or normalised afterwards.

What do you want to do with the isolated voice? Remix it with
different music or just change the balance/volume of it?

This is the crucial point with regard to further processing.

Regards
Robert

Hi Annabel

Vocal Isolation and Reduction is in the Audacity Efects Menu.
Alt-c followed by v should do the trick. Having had a quick play
with it, I am not convinced you will get the level of retrieval of
your voice you want, but I didn't check it out in much detail.

If it isn't in your copy of Audacity, how old is your version?

Hi, it's Annabelle.
I'm looking on the Audacity Wiki, and it seems that I can't find
the Vocal Isolation and Reduction plugin. Is it a regular Audacity
plugin?
Is it a VST plugin? Is it a Nyquist plugin? I'm confused! Where do
I search? I'm trying to recreate the raw track of my voice from a
mixdown track, but all I have is all the instruments and vocals
mixed together on one track. What do I do next?
