Not sure what screen reader you use but hare is a script for both jaws &
NVDA.
Jaws works well for reading the position.
You just hit Alt+del.
Also Holding jaws - shift + a keys tells you the selected tracks.\
I think it has other stuff but haven't found it yet.

Hi Adina
The answer probably has more ifs and buts than you would prefer. If you are
using JAWS a script for Audacity is available and probably has some tools to
help. As I do not use JAWS with Audacity, I will leave that option aside.
There is a toolbar towards the bottom of the screen which can be reached by
pressing control-f6 (control-shift-F6 to get back to the track view). In
the upcoming release of Audacity they have been slightly rearranged, but
functionality is the same. Tab to get around this area and it will be
clearer than my explanation. Start of Selection tells you where the cursor
is if you are not playing. The next tab will take you to end or length of
selection, depending on how you have adjusted the combo box. If you have
selected the entire track, that one will tell you how long to go, but not
otherwise. The Audio Position dialog will tell you where the cursor is,
whether playing or not.
In summary, finding out where you are is easy. Determining how far to the
end of the track requires all audio (or at least that between where you are
and the end) to be selected.
Note that you can play, stop and pause while on the Audio Position readout.
I hope I have done more to clarify than confuse. If not, by all means ask
further questions.

I'd like to know how I can see while playing a track, how much time it
played from that track and how long is still to go? I remember there was a
way with some key shortcut but I lost it since I haven't worked with
audacity in a real while.
