I thought I had it but obviously I'm not quite there yet. I understand how the
songs pile up. What I don't understand is what I'm doing wrong.
To start I select the track with Enter then hit Control A. I hit X at the
beginning and play begins. I stop play with Space and Hit Control B and type
in the name of my first song and hit Enter. I hit Space to resume play on the
first song. At the end of the song, I hit X and play stops. I hit Control B
and type in the name of the second song and hit Enter. I hit Space to play
song number two. At the end of song number two, I hit X. I hit Control B and
Type the Name of song number three. I go on like this until I run out of
songs. At what point should I be hitting Home? I did one album this way and it
seemed to turn out fine. In that case I did not hit Z after X. Would that
make a difference? The 600mb album in question is the first one I inserted Z
after X on. I like this method of splitting if I can just iron it out. Any
help is appreciated.

The reason is probably that the whole track was selected when you
added the labels:
1. whole track selected
2. z, control+B ->creates a label for the whole album
3. play
4. x -> stops but adjusts only the left side of the selection, the
right side is still at the project end.
5. new label -> whole album without the first song.
As you can imagine, this adds up.
If the album had 20 songs, you would end up having saved 210 songs...
The lesson to be learnt, always press home before starting the
labelling process.
Arrow left or Control+Shift+A work also, especially if you don't want
to start the process at the beginning of the album.

Andrew, Lord only knows what I did. I always export my recordings after
amplifying as mp3 as one file in case I mess the cutting process up like I
often do. I simply did this one over again and all is fine now. I'm doing
better with labels now thanks to you and Robert. If this craziness happens

Hello All, I've recorded an album, the amplified mp3 recording is 89MB.
After splitting with labels and exporting multiple the finished product is
619MB. I did insert Z after X when splitting the tracks as suggested by
Robert in an earlier post. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. I do recall
someone having something similar to this a while back.
