What's bassmidi?
Yeah, you're right about the note releases.
It's certainly not more than MIDI mode 0 (one channel).
Theoretically, Audacity can be expanded by modular plug-ins which
provide higher support than e.g. VST and other plug-in types.
Currently, there are only two such modules in existence and it's a bit
cumbersome to activate them...

It seems to be some kind of 8bit synthesizer, however, it only has one
instrument, and notes aren't even released properly. I noticed that
FFmpeg for Audacity comes with many strange libraries, such as Modplug.
I'm not sure if they have anything to do with actual mod files, though.
Could MIDI support ever be coded in around something like, say, Bassmidi?

I wasn't aware of this feature.
FMpeg as such isn't able to do anything with *.mid files. I can't tell
you where this rendering originates.
Must be a different library.
There's a lot of MIDI code in Audacity (e.g. for synchronous playing)
but it is normally disabled.
I know that the current release manager proposed to enable those
features in e.g. 2.1.4.

I hope that this will come true.

Hi, I am aware that usually, in Audacity, MIDI support is quite basic,
and it can only display MIDI, but is unable to work with it. However,
after installing FFmpeg for Audacity, I noticed that MIDI is played,
however, it is using something extremely primitive. From what I get from
the import, I noticed that it lists MIDI as an FFmpeg compatible file,
so the synth that is playing MIDI must be there. So I'm curious. Has
anyone seen this FFmpeg MIDI support? And if so, what exactly is this
synth meant to be?

Thanks.
