Hi Daniel,
welcome to the list.
In more recent versions of Audacity, the keystroke for stopping playback and
setting the cursor to position where playback stopped has changed from
shift+A to the letter X.
You should still be able to use shift+j and shift+k.
If your keyboard hasn't got home and end keys, you should be able to use
function key + left arrow and function key + right arrow respectively.

Hi all,
When I had a Windows computer, I used Audacity nearly constantly to edit my
audio files. I like to record wildlife and so on, so I only needed to do
simple things like amplifying, trimming, filtering, etc. Almost none of this
worked on my Mac when I switched over, so I haven't been able to work on
these files for almost 2 years.
I just put Windows on my Mac using Bootcamp. Everything is going
marvelously, except I have one problem. I used to be able to select from
playback using shift+A and then select to the start (shift+J) or end
(shift+K) of the track, and then press Ctrl+T to trim. But now the Shift+A
thing doesn't seem to work anymore. I now see that you can select using
Shift+Home and Shift+End in the same way, except I don't have home or end
keys. I'm using NVDA, by the way, although I used JAWS with this before I
switched to Mac.
So my question is, do I have to somehow map key combinations in Bootcamp for
Home and End, or is there an alternate way to select something and then
delete the rest of the audio?
Thanks very much in advance,
Daniel
