I'll keep this message until I'm more experienced with Audacity.
Started my first project recording from the cassette player. Even after
normalizing the recording the volume was still too low. I at least am
working on my first recording, smiles.

Especially without hearing the recording, the following is guesswork. Boosting lower frequencies may mask the echo somewhat. It may also produce a muddy sound and/or increase background noise ☹. Knocking out some mid frequencies could also be worth a shot.
Think of it as a learning experience and you may pleasantly surprise yourself.
