To add to suggestions already made, options for recording cassettes onto the
computer will depend to some extent on the specifics of your computer. I am
not familiar with the devices others have suggested, but assume they become
another sound card to which you can connect Audacity. If your computer has
a line in (very rare on notebooks these days) you could use it. My concern
would be that many internal sound cards are cheap and nasty and can
introduce a lot of noise. The benefit of any half decent USB interface is
that it bypasses the internal sound card.
As to where to start with Audacity. The Audacity manual, available from the
Help Menu, is a valuable resource. If you want something more friendly and
specifically written for a blind user, David Bailes' guide at

could be just what you are looking for.
It is also well worth exploring the Audacity menus, as many of its
facilities are available through them. The other area which is good to
become familiar with is Preferences (control-p). Lots of the settings may
not make sense initially, but will become important as you develop
knowledge.
You mentioned that you are a musician. What instruments? If recording
acoustic instruments, you can start down the slippery slope of investigating
microphones. For electronic instruments a mixer will likely become a
necessity.
But before all that, start getting familiar with the way Audacity works.
When something doesn't work as expected or when you cannot find a way of
achieving something, there is lots of expertise on this list. And as you
may have noticed from recent discussions, there is sometimes more than one
way to get the job done.

What's the easiest way to get cassette tapes onto the computer?
I also want to do some basics with Audacity. Where do you feel is a good
place to start for a complete and utter beginner? Goal is to record with it.
