Re the jaws addon, the alt + delete key use to work with ver 2.3.3.
Now it says, “to use this feature you must enable the selection tool bar”
Is this done in Jaws or Audacity?

Curious; what did you setup as your default for the Windows sound device?
Regarding switching where JAWS outputs to; If you:
1. Press JAWSKey+shift+control+’j’ (assuming you have JAWS set to the
laptop layout)
2. Arrow down to Utilities and press enter
3. Arrow down to Sound Card and press enter
You’ll see a listing of devices that you can send the JAWS output to. Just make
sure it’s not the same device that you setup as your Windows default sound
device and you should be golden for recording from the internet without JAWS
blabbing on your recording.
Also, a little aside, are you using the JAWS scriptset that Gary Campbell
develops? If not, you might find it useful. There’s some nifty shortcuts in
there (for example: if you press ‘g’ it will announce the recording input
level, and if you press ‘h’ it will announce the output level, also alt+delete
will announce the current position on the timeline).

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the help. I’ve been playing with both my new Dell Windows 10 and my
old Dell Windows 7 laptops. With both units I can make a nice sounding
internet recording now. However I think separating Jaws to another card is
beyond me without lots of further help and research. In the meantime I work
around this by having Audacity ready for me to hit R and my source ready to hit
play. With focus on Audacity I disable Jaws with Speech on demand, hit R,
Alt/Tab, then enter and I’m off to the races. Again, thanks for the help.
Ted, I may take you up on your offer at another time.

selected as my host and Stereo Mix as my recording device. And and real tech
speakers selected as my playback device. In Jaws utilities under sound card
I’ve selected headphones. I’ve also tried plugging in my USB interface which
has a headphone jack and tried selecting that. No matter what I do everything
comes through the headphones and the two aren’t separated. What in the heck am

Howdy,
I found the stereo mix under Sound Settings. I then clicked on “manage sound
devices”. Under manage sound devices there were three list boxes of sound
devices; Output devices, Input devices, and Disabled devices. For me the
“stereo mix” was under the Disabled devices list. I pressed enter on it, then
tabbed to the “enable” button and pressed enter to enable it.
Since my screen reader goes through that same sound card, I had to change the
sound card my screen reader uses in order to make sure it doesn’t get into the
recording.
Regarding adding your USB audio device; my motto is that one can never have too
many sound devices. *smile*
WASAPI vs. “stereo mix”: You’ll probably need to fiddle with sound levels in
the Windows Volume control along with a mixture of the Audacity recording
levels to get the sound how you like it with either of those hosts. It can be
tedious but worth it when you have it sounding just like you like it.

Hello ted and David and anyone else who may wish to chime in. Where would I
find the stereo mix option? I’ve Made a basic recording using wasapi. For
rerouting JAWS the only options I have are default sound card,
Speaker/headphones HD codex and communications Headphone. I have a Barenger U
Phono USB interface handy. Should I plug that in and run headphones through
it? Another question, are levels set do a default in this form of recording?
Does the volume of the speakers influence the volume of the recording? Thanks

If all you want to do is record from the internet: Not all internal sound cards
provide a “stereo mix” so it might be easier to switch the interface settings
under preferences in Audacity to WASAPI and then make sure your screen reader
is output on a separate audio output device before you begin recording.
There are so many variables… don’t get discouraged just because one persons
internal soundcard has more power than yours. Often a laptop will have less
functionality. It’s all a part of the computer game *smile*.

I’m working with a Dell laptop running Windows 10 and JAWS 2020 and the latest
version of Audacity. What I’m looking for is how to record what is coming
through the computer speakers such as a streamed item and if possible avoid
having the screen reader coming through at the same time. I know this has
been covered before and I’m hoping someone may have an instruction list set up
