I won't go into a lot of details about using object navigation. if you
want to look at sections of a tutorial that deal with the subject, you can
download the relevant sections at

You will see a lot of links on the page for different topics. You will also
see a link to download the entire zipped tutorial if you want to.
Here are instructions on how to read the time using the desktop layout of NVDA.
I don't use the laptop layout.
Main new steps start on new lines.
When you start play or record, issue the command insert numpad 1. If you hear
something like no more modes or whatever it says when you are at the end of
what you can use, than you are using the right thing, object navigation. If
you hear object navigation, you are also using object navigation. If you hear
anything else, repeat the command until you hear object navigation.
Issue the command numpad insert numpad 8.
Press and hold down numpad insert numpad 6 for five or ten seconds, you canplay
around to see. You should be on the time announcement object now. It's the
last item when you move that way. I told you to hold the command so it would
repeat and move you there a lost faster.
If you hear text spoken before the time number, use numpad 6 to move right
until you just hear the numbers. You will hear something like 00 for the hour,
0 and a number if you have been recording for a minute or more and last the
seconds.
If you want to hear the time again, use numpad plus as the most convenient way.
If you leave the program window, you will have to move to the time object
again. If you stay in the window, you won't, at least not until you do
something that causes the object navigator to move.

Vitor, you can read playback and recording time in Audacity without an
add-on, albeit that a few extra keystrokes are initially involved. From
the tracks view, press control-f6 to get to the selection toolbar (make
sure it is checked under View/Toolbars). Tab to Audio Position.
Reading the current line will present all details or you can use NVDA's
review commands to focus on seconds, minutes or hours (depending on your
Audacity settings). While focused on that dialog, you can still
start/stop playing or recording and pause.
As a bytheway, I am fairly certain it also works with JAWS but is
problematic with Window-Eyes, I think due to different video cards. In
fact, if using Window-Eyes it is necessary on some computers to uncheck
the selection toolbar to prevent very sluggish behaviour.
