No, it is a desktop computer. With the laptop I did not have this problem.

Is that a laptop? On my Dell laptops, when the speakers get unplugged and
plugged back in, I get a pop-up asking what device is being plugged in.

Hi Andrew
Thank you for your e-mail.
My mixer has the stereo output for left and right. I use also the stereo
cable with the two connectors at the end and one connector to the other end.
When I plug the cable into the line input, all the sounds coming through the
left hand side speaker.
When I use the USB option, all the sounds coming through both speakers. The
channels that I pan to the left coming also through both speakers.
I try to go to the sound settings in the control panel, as you suggested,
but I cannot find the option to change the input to stereo for the USB
device. I will try again later.
Regards

Hi Marius
Mixers I have encountered have two outputs, one for left and one for right.
In that case you would need a cable with two connectors at one end and a
stereo connector at the other. If your mixer has a single stereo out, you
would need a stereo cable for the line in on the computer. The mic input
will almost certainly be mono. It is also far from ideal to record from a
mixer into a mic input.
If your mixer can be connected to the computer via a USB cable, that would
be my preferred option. One issue I have occasionally come across is that
Windows sets input to mono. Go into sound settings for your USB input and
check that.

Subject: [audacity4blind] RECORDING IN STEREO DIFFICULTIES
Good day all
I hope someone can help me.
I do not know if there are a setting on Audacity that I miss.
I have a few microphones plugged in on my mixer and I do left & right
panning with some of them. I have a cable running from the output of the
mixer to the line input of the desktop computer. When I record in stereo
and play the recording back, all sounds coming through the left hand side
speaker. When I plug the cable into the mic input, all sound coming through
the right hand side speaker. When I try the USB soundcard, all sounds
coming through both speakers, including those that I pan to the left.
When I use the onboard soundcard of the laptop, there is no problem, only on
the desktop.
Regards
Marius
