Hi Andrew,
Hope you had a nice dinner; Stil have to wait an hour for lunch here, smile.
I think I will try to learn some more about the zoom and if it is learnable
without speech support.
I received this information from neal
http://podcasts.ravenswood.org/podcasts.html
Alternatively, I could buy a multichannel soundcard that can take on 4 xlr
connected microphones (no mixer needed here)
Or the hird option
Buy an audio mixer that can take on 3 external xlr microphones and has
multitrack output to the pc (no multichannel sound card need here).
Thanks for helping me further.
Cheers!
Rachid

Hi Samir and Rachid
I have done some further thinking and discussed with a friend who is a
professional audio engineer. My research is only half-baked, but this is what
I have so far.
The Olympus LS-100 can do multi-track recording, but there are two issues. One
is that the feature is not supported by speaking menus. The more significant
issue is that it only has two mike inputs, so you could not record to more than
two tracks simultaneously.
I do not know the Zoon recorders at all, but understand some models can accept
up to four mikes and can record to multiple tracks. You would have to learn
the controls though, as they do not offer speech feedback.
Now to multi-channel sound cards. My friend suspects that they would start at
around $300 but that is a guess and it is too close to dinner to do more
searching just now (smile). Behringa or Presonus may be good starting points.
You would need one with four mike inputs (they do not come with three). They
would connect via a USB port and you could assign inputs to separate tracks in
Audacity.
Note that we are talking sound cards, not mixers. They would do a similar job
but would be in the form of a box. I would also not be surprised if something
suitable would be more expensive. You would also need three suitable
microphones.
So there is some food for thought and I am off to have dinner.

Hi Rachid
Fortunately USB mixers connect directly to PCS and Laptops. As Andrew
said earlier, the downside to most entry level USB mixers is that it
only sends out a single stereo track so one won't be able to record
individual tracks for each mic in your scenario.
Kind regards
Sameer

If you have an usb mixer, do you still need to buy a multichannel
soundcard or is the usd mixer directly connected to the pc?

Hi Rachid
I use the Behrinjer Zenix fx 1204 uSB. Compared to the rest of the
mixers out there, it is in my view the best most cost effective entry
level mixer on the market and most certainly will help record your
podcasts with relative simplicity.
It's not large, but I wouldn't call it an extremely travel friendly
mixer though.

That's too bad of the zoom. I was hoping that it would be a good
travel option.
Are you maybe able to recommend an audio mixer that is user friendly?
Cheers,
Rachid

Hi Rachid
I would recommend a smallish USB mixer or an external USB sound card
with a PC or laptop capable of running Audacity.
The zoom handy recorders are unfortunately completely blind unfriendly.
Hope this helps.

Just joined the list, and hoped I could ask a question;
I'm want to record serval interviews/podcasts involving 3 persons
at the same time.
I hope to give each person including me a microphone so as to have
a good recording quality.
I'm able to work with the basics of audacity and would like to edit
each speakers track aftherwards;
My question?
What device would you recommend that is most accessible for a blind
user that can do multi track recording?
Is one of the zoom recorders a good option? Or maybe an other option?
Thanks for any help in this regard;
Cheers!
