There are multiple possibilities.
I think I've used my stereo toolkit from the forum:

It has for instance an "Action" "From left to pan".
This means that the sound begins left and moves to the pan position--a
control that goes from -180 to 180 with 0 equals middle.
If you want to use build-in plugins, you have first to split the stereo track.
Let's say, you've got the left track at the top and the right one at the bottom.
- Motion from left to middle:
make a fade-in over the bottom track (right channel)
However, this is not well balanced and it might be better to use
"Adjustable Fade" because you can start higher than 0.
(side note, it is enough to start the fading of the right channel at
10 % because the sensation will still be such that the movement begins
left. The advantage is that the movement starts earlier and doesn't
seem to stay left unnecessarily long.)
You should also adjust the left channel (with adjustable fade) in
order to have the same overall volume.
I can give you the exact values if you can't come up with them yourself.
top track: 141 % down to 100 %
bottom track: 10 % up to 100 %
(keep an eye on the peak level of the stereo track...)
If you adjust the mid point (also %) as well, you can change the acceleration.

Hello everyone.
I'm doing a drama, and i wanted to simulate someone entering a room,
closing the door and aproaching the other person who is siting at his desk.
I would like to simulate his aproach by walking through the room and use
a pan effect to give the idea of motion.
If i select a bit of audio in audacity, calling the pan menu and
adjusting percentage with the arrow keys, even if just a bit of audio is
selected, the entire track will sound pan changed.
I could try using my mixer's pan knobs, but then i would have to sit by
the mixer and it will not be possible to simulate aproaching motion.
So how can i make linear adjustments left to right or vice versa with
audacity?
