Hi Stan,
concerning the R and Shift + R keystrokes being swapped over on your
computer. In the recording category of preferences, there's a "record on a
new track" check box, which is not checked by default. If this check box is
checked, then the record commands and their keystrokes are switched back to
what they used to be before 2.2.0. This option was introduced because it
was thought that users who had used Audacity for a long time might find it
easier to stick with the behaviour they'd been using.
My guess is that you have this option checked.
David.

Hi Andrew, Lol I think I’ll just keep using it the way it is; I’m pretty
much used to it now anyway. Oh, and no I haven’t imported any key maps.

Stan, that is most strange. You didn’t happen to import a key map from a
previous version? They made the switch two or three versions ago. If you
were a pedant like me you could swap them under Keyboard in Preferences.
Otherwise, just keep in mind that your installation is special.

Very strange; I’m using the latest Audacity 2.3.0 with 64 bit windows 10
1803, and those key strokes are reversed for me. Hitting the letter R gives
me a new track and shift-R appends to whatever track I have selected.

Hi Diane
For recent versions of audacity, to record a new trak press Shift+R. Press
R to append record to the end of current track

Hi Everyone,
I found some old instructions on how to do this. I think something may
have changed since 2017 because these instructions don't seem to work. I
think pressing r no longer records a new track for one thing. Can someone
tell me how to insert a word in the middle of a track with newer versions
of Audacity? Thanks.
Diane
