yes, the default names are "track one", "track two", and so on, which you can rename as you wish, for example "vocals one" "harmony volcals" "drums" etc. The way to open a menu on the selected track is shift+m.

In 1.3.1, you can define selection edges by typing in left bracket [, a
menu pops up, you can type in the start time of the selection. And you can
do the same for right bracket ]. On the track that you select (if you have
more than one track, you determine which track by pressing the up and down
arrows).
