Having grown up in days of analogue, the fact that one should not go above 0
when recording has not been an issue for me. Think of it a bit like
temperature. -5 (note the minus) degrees is warmer than -10 degrees.
Similarly, -5db is louder than -10db. The analogy breaks in that most of the
time most of us want the temperature to go well above 0.

Again, I am the rawest of beginners concerning audio and recording.
I use a cheap mike plugged into the mike jack hole on the front of my dell
Windows10 desktop and the Headphones plugged into the headphone jack next to it
for now.
Thanks Andrew, that audio tutorial is excellent and has allot of critical and
informative info to research.
On the very first listen to your audio tutorial I learned the -db setting goes
down and not up as the sound level increases.
