As far as I know, if this is a microphone that plugs into the microphone jack
of the computer and isn't a USB microphone, it won't be recognized by the
computer as a separate microphone. As far as why the computer isn't using the
microphone when you are using the setting for the internal microphone, I don't
know. When you plug a microphone into the microphone jack, it should be used
if the internal microphone is selected as the source.
You may find a solution by looking at this article or at perhaps one of the
related articles linked to at the end. Or you may have to get an external
sound card and plug the microphone into that.

doesn't show up anywhere for me to select it, but I've tried other mics
that are listed, and I've had no success. The speaker and earphone work
fine.
Does anyone have a solution?
