So Andrew: Would Audacity use sound font files to play MIDI? Does
Audacity also need instrument definition to know what instruments to
play, general MIDI, etc?

Hi Richard

Audacity can now play pre-recorded midi files.

Since Audacity can't play vst, what is the purpose of the midi section
in preferences? Thanks for clarification.

Robert’s point is a very good one.  Audacity cannot play VST
instruments and I was remiss for not mentioning that.

    Hi Michael

I put any effect files into
    C:\Users\Andrew\AppData\Roaming\audacity\Plug-Ins (replace Andrew
with your username).  I do not have any vst files in Audacity, but
assume they would also go there. Remember to go to the Effects
Menu and enable the new files.

reason, I have problem installing them

Can someone tell me how to install VST on my system?

Hope to hear from you soon
