[audacity4blind] Re: Enhancing slightly muffled sounding voice recordings

Will keep it in mind, but, also just used a 'cheat' now - fired up the result of auphonic in gomPlayer, with use voice adjustment turned on, and recorded it's playback output using virtual recorder, and, this combination now seems to be best bet - think it comes down to that the woman I recorded just has that style of voice, or else it was since recording was carried out in a open-plan area inside her house - who knows.

Hi Jacob!

What I really love about auphonic is that if you want to change something from
the production result, you can edit the production, and therefor no extra
charge of the time you get with the free account.

I have used it when I have some audio that I like to sound good, but can't
think of any way to get the job done with my own tools.

Thanks.

Tried it out, but, honestly, it sounds pretty much as good as I could get it
myself using combinations of compression, eqalisation, etc., but, will try play
with their result a bit now as well - you get 2 hours of free/trial audio
production credit.

Hi Jacob!

If you have the original recording without anything else than the normalize
this tool might help you out:
http://ww.auphonic.com
it can make compression and noise reduction to recordings and it is extremely
good at it.
You can get a free account with 2 hours of audio time.
Hope this helps

Have gone through a few tutorial videos on youTube, and have also read up a few
write-ups about enhancing voice recording quality for things like podcasts,
instructional material, and the combinations of things like recording at lower
levels, then amplifying a recording, performing noise reduction, and then
applying a combination of effects like firstly telephone equalizer,
compression, and then normalization worked fine, on another recording or two,
but, the current bit of recording am working on still comes across as slightly
muffled sounding.

As in, I want to sort of boost the vocal clarity, and, most of the material
found online mentions the emi 78 equalizer curve, so went to the relevant
audacity wiki page, and got hold of both the American_78_2_1_2, and the
European_78_2_1_2 equalizer curves, and while both of them seemed to help
somewhat if apply them after amplification, but, before compression, and
normalization, this current recording still sounds a bit muffled to me.

Now, maybe part of the issue is since it's a person speaking a language I don't
know, but, she's working with the same headset another person recorded
something similar for me with, and using same laptop, installation of audacity,
etc., and the first recording came across a lot clearer sounding.

Anyway, here's a tiny little sample to give you an idea of what am talking
about, and just wondering if you guys might have any suggestions about what to
try/apply:

http://www.blindza.co.za/temp/sample.mp3

On that one, I have thus far just amplified it, and applied noise reduction,
and, the woman is speaking a Southern African language, Tswana, if tht means
much, and, in person, her voice is much clearer/eloquent.
