[audacity4blind] Dropping/lowering volume of a part/piece of a track etc.

Aside from using silence from generate menu, was wondering what might be best
way to in fact drop/lower volume of part of a track - as in, select a specific
part, and then just drop that part of the track/output by a certain
amount/percentage?
Know this might be possible by using something like negative percentage values
in amplify effect, but, not sure..?
