Could anyone advise about deleting Audacity files?

Usually I search for the file name, delete it, then delete the data
file attached to it. However, I find I have thousands of files beginning with e that can't be deleted.

Am I going about things in the wrong way?

After deleting the AUP file, delete the _data folder with the same name. This will delete the correct AU files starting with letter "e". For example, if you want to delete the "Sunday songs" project, delete the file "Sunday songs.AUP" and the folder "Sunday Songs_data".
