Hi Diane!
CDex does allow extracting the whole CD into one file. Make sure that all
tracks in the track list box are selected and press F10. Then either press
enter immediately or first enter a descriptive name for the file to be
created.

To make this an Audacity topic, here's how you would combine the
individual tracks.
First import all 63 tracks. Making sure they're in the right order, use
context menu to move up or down, select track 1 by pressing enter and
then press k to move the cursor to the end.
Now unselect track 1, move down to track 2, select it and press alt-t a c.
That's the Align With Cursor command. Track 2 is now beginning where track
1 ends.
Repeat 61 times and wish you had used F10 in CDex instead.
Finally press ctrl-A to select all tracks and then select Mix And Render
from the Tracks menu. All tracks will be mixed down into a single track.

Cheers, Robbie

Hi David,

Thanks. I took your advice and I now know where the files are. I was under
the impression that CDEX would creat one large .wav file with the 63
tracks on my CD, but it saved them as 63 separate .wav files. I really
would like to combine them if possible. What is the best way to do this in
Audacity?
All help appreciated.

Diane

Hi Diane,
I think you'll find it much easier if you first change where CDex is
saving the files. You'll then find it much easier to search for them, and
open them in audacity.

To change where cdex saves, assuming you're using 1.70 beta 4:
1. Press f4 to open the configuration dialog.
2. In the tree view, select directories and files.
3. tab to the Ouput filename format and directories Recorded Tracks
read-only edit box.
4. Press enter to open a browse for folder dialog.
5. In the tree view select the folder where you want to cdex files to be
saved.
If, for example, you wanted them saved in your my music folder, then:
press home to move to the top of the tree; arrow down to libraries; press
right arrow to open; down arrow to music; right arrow to open; down arrow
to my music; press enter to press the default ok button; 6. back in the
configuration dialog, tab to the ok button and press it.

After you've made these changes, then files will be saved in an apropriate
folder within your my music folder.

You can then easily find these files from the open dialog in audacity:
1. Press alt+i to move to the look-in combo box.
2. Select your personal folder, and press enter.
3. Tab to the list view. Here you can move down to my music, and then move
down further folders as necessary till you get to the files you're looking
for.

David.

Hi Everyone,

My folder settings are set so that hide extensions for known file types is
unchecked and I still can't find the file and folder I need. I have also
searched for *.wav and only found one file on my computer with this
extension which has nothing to do with cdex. Are there other settings in
cdex that I should be changing? This is my last question about this. I'm
ready to give up now. Thanks.

Diane

I am not blind so cannot give you instructions for navigating Explorer in
VI tools.

In Explorer, open Tools > Folder Options. Move to the "View"
tab. There is an "Advanced settings" window containing a list of options.
Under "Files and Folders", ensure "Hide extensions for known file types"
is unchecked and choose OK. Then you can work out if there are any WAV
files in " C:\Program Files (x86)\CDex\my music\no artist\".

If there is a WAV file, execute it in whatever way you normally execute a
file or program. A sighted user would double-click the file. This will
play it in the default program associated with WAV files (probably Windows
Media Player).

If you want to open this WAV file in Audacity, File > Import > Audio. In
"Select one or more audio files", TAB into the "Files of type" combo box
and arrow down to select "WAV, AIFF and other uncompressed types".  Then
you can SHIFT - TAB back up into the "Look in" combo box to select the
directory the WAV file is in. When you are in that directory, TAB into the
window list and open the file from the list of WAV files.
